Pursuit Force: Extreme Justice PSP Demo Hands-On

Here's a rule for video game villains of every stripe: No matter your level of insanity and sociopathic tendencies, your disdain for humanity, or your desire to crush underfoot all those who stand against you, you should never ever plot one of your devastating surprise attacks on a woman's wedding day. You should especially avoid this when the bride happens to be a helicopter pilot, the groom a supercop, and both are members of the elite crime-busting division of Pursuit Force. As we discovered in our recent hands-on time with a demo version of the upcoming Pursuit Force: Extreme Justice for PSP, it's precisely that kind villainous faux pas that begins the game. Puzzle Guzzle Threatens PSP Owners with Deadly Triangles

Agetec, Inc. today announced it will be publishing Puzzle Guzzle for North Amercian audiences next spring. According to the press release, "players race to assemble triangles and other shapes by rotating marked squares pieces." However, PSMan62 on the PlayStation Forums describes it like this: "[It] reminds me of Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine back on Sega Genesis. It seems that you basically have to rotate the blocks to form a shape or connect it to the sides and they disappear. The more you make, the more solid blocks appear on the other side."

Puzzle Guzzle also features a two player mode (pictured above). "Puzzle Guzzle is sure to be a game that PSP system owners will love," said Mark Johnson, producer for Agetec, Inc. "It starts out simple enough, but it doesn't take long before that classic panicked feeling starts taking over as the game becomes progressively more challenging."

Patapon Marching in February

One of the zanier games to come out last year has been LocoRoco, a platformer for Sony's PlayStation Portable that features a docile and sublimely happy blob. At this year's Tokyo Game Show, Sony's Japanese studio behind LocoRoco took the wraps off of its most recent mind-bending project, Patapon. Although the rhythm-based action game had thus far been confirmed only for Japanese PSP owners, Sony has now announced that Patapon will see release in North America in February 2008.

Patapons, attack! As detailed in GameSpot's preview from TGS '07, Patapon employs rhythm-based button presses to command an army of soldiers--called patapons--that are equal parts barbaric and bizarre. According to Sony, the game's unique art style and abstract environments were inspired by French artist Rolito, who served as chief artist on the game.

Patapon features more than 30 missions spread across 20 different 2D environments. Adding a layer of depth beyond simple rhythmic button presses, patapons come in a variety of specializations and can be upgraded with more than 100 different weapon and shield combinations.

Available exclusively on the PSP, Patapon has not yet been rated or priced. For more on the game, check out GameSpot's previous coverage.

PSP Gets an In-Built Camera

A camera is something that many people have wished for in the PSP and this mod is probably about as close as most of us will ever get (unless the PSP 2 gets one).

It looks like a pretty accomplished job and is inset neatly above the MagicGate logo on the back. Might be nice if the camera was forward facing too for video calling but maybe that’s just greed on our part.

PixelJunk Monsters Joins the Remote Play Line-up

Currently available only in Japan, the upcoming PSN game PixelJunk Monsters, will support Remote Play. This will allow players to play the game on their PSPs from anywhere with a wi-fi signal. According to Q-Games' Dylan Cuthbert, it is one of the best titles on Remote Play, thanks to its ability to play with low bandwidth. "We also support PSP remote play and it is probably one of the first games that supports this really well - ie. it is totally playable through your PSP, even at low bandwidths."

We're glad that more developers are adding this oft-forgotten feature to their PS3 games. With Remote Play and new downloadable titles reaching the PLAYSTATION Store, it's clear that PSP fans are getting more and more ways of getting games on their system.

New Aibo PS3, PSP Compatible?

Stuff Magazine is running a rumour off the possibility that Sony will allowing it’s Aibo Robot dog to interac with the PSP and the PS3 in order to boost it’s popularity and maximize it’s sales.

The Aibo PS will appear with its own avatar within Home and react in the real world as he does in the PS3’s upcoming interactive environment, according to the article. The rumor article goes on to say that you will be able to download new personalities for the dog from the Playstation Network and that the dog will be fully controllable using a PSP via WiFi. The dog’s head camera will send a real world vid feed to the PSP’s screen as well. The Dpad will control walking movement and the four main buttons will deal with head movement, which seems odd.

The Stuff folks rate this rumor as having a 53 percent probability. At the end of all this is it really that big of a deal? I mean it’s a robot dog that costs a heck of a lot of money. I guess it depends on whether or not you like to see streaming live video straight from the dog’s head :)
